One of my favorite BuJo setups I’ve done to date: my spring florals theme for April! I was inspired by the amazing setup Shayda Campbell did a few years ago, but of course bringing my own twist to the design. Thinking of April always brings bright spring colors to mind, so I decided to go with a vivid selection of pink, baby blue, yellow and green.

March Bullet Journal Setup (15+ Theme Ideas)

I had quite a hard time choosing a Bujo theme for March. I had already used violets in the past, as well as forget-me-nots. Keeping up with my story-based themes I though about making it “Little Women” because of the March family, but the season doesn’t fit. Finally Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit seemed like a perfect match. Her soft watercolor style screams spring, Peter rabbit will tie in nicely with Easter, March Hares etc, and I added some snow-drops for florals.

This Peter Rabbit box set is a must-have for any Peter Rabbit fan.

By the way, this Peter Rabbit Hardcover collection is a must-have for Beatrix Potter fans – all of her 23 orginal tales and gorgeous illustrations in one place!

February PWM: Chinese New Year Inspired Cherry Blossom Bullet Journal Theme

For February a cherry blossom bullet journal theme seems to be my go-to. I had been watching one of my favorite Chinese costume dramas, the “Legend of the Phoenix“, and I wanted to do a BuJo theme based on this series. What better time than February, the month of this year’s Chinese or Lunar New Year!

This means we’ll be using lots of red and gold, celebratory colors in Chinese tradition. I also wanted to include cherry blossoms, and I tried to make them look like an ancient Chinese painting. If I succeeded is up to debate, but I’m quite happy with the result!

I used mainly brush pens and some gold marker, and all in all it was quite an easy design to paint.

I added two of the main characters form the Legend of the Phoenix – the Empress and Ningzhi (Noble Consort Ning) – I love their intricate and dramatic costumes, especially with the floor-length sleeves and trains! To make the red color for the empress’ gown and the lanterns pop, I used orange as a base coat. If you paint you read on top it will result in a a much more vibrant color.

This month we’re back to vertical weekly spreads, as the horizontal layouts just don’t work out for me. Although they can look extremely cute fancy, for me a plain two-column layout works best: the days of week, and a to-do list. So that’s what we’re doing this month.

January Bullet Journal Theme: NARNIA

What better way to create a wintery theme, than to fall back on C.S. Lewis’ masterpiece, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! Lots of metallic marker, the iconic lamppost, snow and trees seem like a very good theme for January, though it could also work in December. Regardless, here we go:

Starting a Reading Journal from Scratch for Beginners

If one of your New Years resolutions is to read more books (great for cutting down on useless screen time by the way) or if you’re an established book worm who wants to keep track of his/her reading, starting a book journal is for you!

There’s really no right or wrong way to go about it – depending on the effort you want to put in you can keep it very simple, or go a little bit crazy, or both. I decided on a vintage scrap-book-style theme, so I just printed some vintage floral art and stuck them in, complemented with some gold washi-tape and gold marker. It turned out very pretty, and was very quick and easy to do. This way the trackers at the start of the journal all have a cohesive look, whereas as soon as I got into the book pages, things started to go in any direction possible, depending on the style and theme of the book.

Pages you will want to include:

Title page (maybe with a quote)
Reading goals
TBR spread (book titles to get around to, maybe unread books you already own, or suggestions you want to try)
Series tracker
Monthly recap (titles read, optionally some reading stats like total page count etc. and ratings at a glance)

New Bullet Journal: COMPLETE Planner Setup 2024 in a Square Journal

This year, we’re switching things up by using a square planner! While I will do a floral themed yearly set-up or pre-setup, I won’t force myself to stick to florals only this year as I did previously, in fact, I’m planning to be a little more imaginative, and want to base some of my themes off my favorite stories, be they books, movies, or historical periods. I’m really exited to share all of these with you, so make sure to subscribe to my channel and turn on notifications, so you don’t miss my future videos! But today, florals it is.

Throughout this setup I’ll be mainly using brush pen markers, since I plan on doing a lot of calligraphy, and they’re great to doodle with as well. For the title page however I’m using watercolors – I did a swatch test on a scrap, and the paper in my new journal is just about thick enough to take watercolors in moderation. I decided on doing a loose watercolor floral arrangement for the title page, and then we went ahead with manly marker doodles for the rest of our spreads.

Bullet Journal Setup for September 2023

September is back to school month, or maybe you’re starting a new job, and it’s time to get your life back together after the summer month. So I was also extra motivated to make a special effort with my planner design for this month, even though I’m still on my old journal. If you’re a student, it might be helpful to start a new notebook to kick off the new academic year. Again, this is all about customizing your planner to your needs, and going beyond the mere aesthetic aspect of bullet-journalling.

For September I chose asters as my theme, the Birth flower for September. Besides, they’re purple, and that just happens to be a favorite color of mine.

Creative Spreads to Include in your September Setup:

If you’re starting your new notebook this month, of course you will need to do a proper yearly setup. The suggestions below are not all included in the video, as I usually keep my setups very simple, including only goals, month at a glance and habit trackers. My August Bullet Journal Setup – Step-by-Step!

So keeping up the floral theme I’ve had going for this entire year, this month we’re doing water-lilies! And no, I’m not Monet, so please don’t expect a full-scale oil painting on my habit tracker spread.

Instead, since I’ll be on holiday for August, with less daily tasks and things on my to do list, I won’t need a weekly spread this time around. Everything necessary for successfully planning this month will have to fit on my monthly spread. I encourage all of you to break the rules one in a while, and really personalize your journal to fit your current needs. Don’t fell like you have to do what everyone else is doing in their picture-perfect bujos on social media. Have fun planning!
